From her basement studio in Calgary, artist Hope Milner creates handmade whimsical and quirky characters from antique, vintage, and recycled items.

Each Funky Robot begins life when she walks into her studio and picks up a number of objects she has accumulated – trying to find pieces that can work together. Every design is unique and depends on her mood of the day. Her designs are all mechanically put together… not glued. Each robot is given a name, a metal Funky Robot tag is drilled in, and a card outlining all the components finishes off each creation.  She uses basic hardware tools, a vise, drills, drill press, riveter, saw, jewelry tools and metal shears, as well as some resin for some creations.  She gets all of her materials from flea markets, donations, antique stores, donations and recycling depots.
