The key to Kathleen’s creative process is working with natural fibres and making small limited collections of garments, as well as one-of-a-kind pieces with specialty fabrics she has found or re-worked with surface design. Kathleen applies her years of training and experience in garment design and construction to create clothing that fits well and is both functional and fun. She starts with a design concept and then proceeds with sketching, fabric selection, sample creation, fitting the prototype on a model, pattern drafting, and finally production.

Kathleen’s naturally dyed wool scarves in vibrant jewel tones are all hand dyed with natural dyes. She first scours the fabric to prepare it for the dyeing process and then weighs the scarves (natural dyes are measured as a percentage of the weight of each individual scarf). She then cooks the scarves at 185°F for one hour in a mordant, which prepares the fabric to take the dye. Finally, she dyes the scarves in the natural dye for one hour, being mindful to constantly stir the scarves to achieve a uniform colour.
